We were looking for a new place with a special "feeling" to it. It took some time, but we finally "fell" for this rooftop apartment. It took a lot of imagination and hard work to make it look the way it does now, but it was definitely worth the trouble. We had the opportunity to live there for a couple of months -- with two kids. It was kind of a test and it was truly a wonderful experience. Our guests' comments can confirm this. |

| It boasts a glorious garden with table seating 8 for al fresco dining, a stone dipping pool, fruit orchard, and olive grove. With its turquoise-shuttered windows, terra-cotta-tiled floors, beamed ceilings and spacious living room featuring a large stone fireplace, this is Provençal living at its most authentic. The Mas sleeps four in the main house; two in the attached, but independent, guest house with own bathroom. Nearby is the bustling market town of Carpentras and the antiques center of Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. The Dentelles mountains and the celebrated Mt. Ventoux, both minutes' drive away, offer exhilarating hiking and biking on pathways lined with thyme and rosemary. Situated in the heart of the Côte du Rhône region, this Mas is a delight for wine enthusiasts, too (Chateauneuf du Pape, Gigondas, Vacqueyras... all at short driving distance).

Beaumes de Venise is a small village surrounded with the Dentelles Mountains and about an hour from Marseilles airport and 25 minutes north of Avignon. It is famous for its olive oil and especially its Muscat and Côte du Rhône wines, which is why most of the land and hills surrounding the village -- and our house -- are covered with olive trees and vineyards. The Mont Ventoux is about 30 minutes away by car. And we know for sure that the bicycle ride from the top of the Mont Ventoux down to the house is about 2.5 hours. We never tested it the other way around.
Major towns around Beaumes de Venise: Carpentras (with its amazing Friday open air market - our favorite), Orange (with its colossal Roman amphitheater and glorious opera festival), and Vaison la Romaine (with its Roman and medieval town, side by side).
Immediate vicinity
The house itself is rather isolated among vineyards and pine tree hills. The nearest villages, Beaumes de Venise and Sarrians, are about 2-3 km away. The nearest house is our care taker's and it is up the hill from us, at about 200 m.
There is a small stream that passes behind the house, called Les Seyrels. This is where the house gets its official name from. The stream is usually dry in the Summer.
Closest airports: Marseille (1hr); Nîmes (1hr); Avignon (30min).
Closest train stations: Avignon (30 min.) and Orange (15 min.)
You definitely need a car.

This is a end of 19th century, typical mas, or farm house, that was built by local farmers who grew mostly fruits (strawberries and melons) and asparagus. It was in ruins until 1970, when it was renovated with the local spirit. Only the garden was added, with the help of the then chief gardener of the Bagatelle gardens in Paris.
Like most Provençal houses, Les Seyrels faces South.

My husband and I fell immediately in love with this authentic, charming and unspoiled 'Mas'. The interior is spacious and tastefully decorated. We enjoyed the beautiful garden, the olive trees, the scent of lavender and thyme, the terrace with it's pergola overgrown with grapes and wisteria, the hammock for a well-deserved siesta after lunch, the stone basin for a quick cool-off... more |

Is there a hair dryer in the house?
All of our properties are equipped with a hair dryer.
Is this a quiet apartment?
Since it is isolated, it is extremely quiet.
